The primary emphasis of Dr. Nonnecke’s research is to develop new approaches in fruit and vegetable cropping systems with benefit to farmers, the environment, and societies in Iowa, the United States, and globally.

Dr. Nonnecke's training is in horticulture from The Pennsylvania State University and The Ohio State University. She is a professor in the Department of Horticulture at Iowa State University. Dr. Nonnecke serves as Faculty Coordinator and Global Professor for the interdisciplinary Global Resource Systems major. She also serves as Associate Director for Education in the Center for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods, with activities in the Iowa State University-Uganda Program.
